Michael Baier has an extraordinary career in hospitality and is a forerunner for change in the industry. Currently the general manager of Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco, he knows that the success of a hotel today is centered on enhancing guest experience through surpassing the individualized expectations of each customer. And at Stanford Court, they manage this experience as an art. To underscore this objective, locality is placed front and center. Michael shows that incorporating local brands, local artists, and local companies is essential to tell the story of the city and give a unique insider experience. Daylighted had the great pleasure of interviewing him.
For 5 years, the economic health of the hospitality sector has never been better; the demand has been growing, the offer has been increasing, and the KPIs of most of the hotels have been improving year after year. In November 2015, Marriott International acquired Starwood Hotels and Resorts, leading the trend of major mergers within the hospitality industry. Looking ahead to 2017, Millennials represent the crucial consumer group. These guests, ages 20 to 35, will replace baby boomers, who currently hold that distinction. This shift in consumer segmentation means a shift in consumers’ habits, which are moving towards increased technology, mobile devices, and customized experiences.
Today’s hotel guests have little in common with the guests of just a decade ago. Today’s travelers are digital natives with increased mobility thanks to their constant access to smartphones, tablets, and phablets. They are insta-travellers who want total control over their travel experience. Savvy hotel managers know that the best way to keep these travelers satisfied is by empowering them.
There’s a rumble in the distance - the echo of tires slapping against the pavement, the playful exchange of pig-skinned insults, the rallying cry for field domination. Football fans are making their way toward Santa Clara, with faces painted and wallets open.
For about 6 years now, the hospitality industry has been shaken by the disruptive peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodations leader: Airbnb. Airbnb has forced all the hospitality players from the smallest boutique hotel to the largest chain to transform and adapt to new standards. Let’s delve in and see how hoteliers can benefit from the Airbnb trends.
We live in an ever-changing world where different people, cultures, and lifestyles are blending together to create new trends that impact our society and reach the hospitality industry. Travelers are no longer just looking for a place to sleep, but are looking for an unforgettable experience filled with exploration and local interaction.
Sofitel San Francisco Bay Brings a Multi-Sensory Experience to Hotel Guests
San Francisco (June, 9th 2015) - Daylighted is pleased to share its installation at the Joie De Vivre Galleria Park Hotel. Upon entering the hotel lobby, guests will now be greeted by an elegant digital canvas revealing custom art exhibitions. The SmArtGallery, provided by Daylighted, is a 40-inch, high-definition monitor that can be controlled in real time by hospitality personnel. This technology is the first of its kind allowing hotels to change the art displayed in their establishment as often as they like. The Joie De Vivre Hotel Group is known for their innovative practices and creative use of technology so their affiliation with Daylighted only seems natural.
