This insect portrait was originally a large pen-and-ink drawing of the insect, which I scanned into the computer. For the background I added and manipulated layers of abstract imagery, textures and photographs. The pixels on all of these layers interact with each other in varying ways and to varying degrees to intensify the depth and complexity of the insect’s environment.
Gail Morrison is a printmaker who grew up in Massachusetts, but has lived most of her life in the San Francisco area. She currently lives in Richmond, California, and prints at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California, where she is an Artist in Residence. She has a BA degree in architecture.
