Acrylic, epoxy and ink on wood
15.5 x 29 in

Justin Teisl is a San Francisco based painter who makes use of traditional and experimental painting techniques to create artworks which employ abstract and representational elements and push the two dimensional limit of painting. His use of epoxy resin and acrylic, at times layered, at times separated, serve to create visceral and atmospheric backgrounds that range from the seemingly natural world to pure abstraction. A common thread in his work is the patterns and shapes made by tree’s leaves and branches; he works with the spaces between them, and the character of the line they demonstrate.
After receiving his BFA from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he participated in many exhibits in the area, notably with the “Made in Milwaukee” cultural advocacy group from 2006 to 2008. After taking a few years away from his art practice, Teisl has reengaged his creative side in his new home of San Francisco. He has shown his paintings in a solo exhibition “New Works” at Four Barrel Coffee and recently participated in group exhibitions including the SOMArts Cultural Center Juried Benefit Auction.
