36”x48” Acrylic on Canvas
Growing up in Oakland had its trials and tribulations but also opened my eyes to the true struggle that it is to be a young black man in this country. Always assumed guilty, the odds continually stack against them... I could go on and on... Our POC don’t stand a chance in a system rife with systemic racism...
Look no further than Eric Garner, Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Clinton Allen, John Crawford, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Laquan McDonald... this list grows and grows.
As a mother my heart aches, as a human being on this earth I can’t sit idly by... saytheirnames and let us never forget that blacklivesmatter
This piece itself is a fictional portrait, it isn’t of one particular POC, my hope is that this brings our attention not to an individual but to the issue as a whole. These are our sons and daughters, these are our friends, our neighbors, our classmates... they are WORTHY.
