"Back Story" is a composite of 22 photographs combined through the process of hand weaving. It was shot from a parking structure across from the buildings which front onto Market Street, San Francisco. The photographs were taken from multiple views and levels within the parking structure. I wanted to depict the structures as if breathing, in a state of inspiration and expiration. Original artwork is 32 x 72 inches framed.
My work is rooted in the idea that the spaces we build exert a powerful influence on our movements as well as our feelings of connection to place. Though their presence may not rise to a level of conscious awareness, I believe the structures that surround us can either excite or dull our senses, intimidate or intrigue, dwarf or celebrate our presence.
