Everything Scavenged to Make "Lyrics on the Paper"

Rourke combines vintage photographs, contemporary imagery, text, and other materials in stop-motion animated videos that are filled with moments of beauty and surprise. With the look of bygone days come to life, and presented in tandem with his own musical compositions, Rourke’s live cinema performances connect to traditions of traveling road shows and small town entertainment in the early 20th century. For his 2014 Recology residency he produced the video, "Lyrics on the Paper."

The Artist in Residence Program at Recology San Francisco is a one-of-a-kind program established in 1990 to encourage the conservation of natural resources and instill a greater appreciation for the environment and art in children and adults.
