Matthew Gottschalk looked to explorers such as Jacques Cousteau and Carl Sagan for inspiration while on his own epic adventure at the dump in 2014. In sculpture, video and installation, and with a marionette protagonist, Gottschalk brought playfulness and poignancy to deeper questions of what it means to be human.
The Artist in Residence Program at Recology San Francisco is a one-of-a-kind program established in 1990 to encourage the conservation of natural resources and instill a greater appreciation for the environment and art in children and adults.
